A Little Bit Crafty. A Little Bit Sweet. Entirely Us.
What began as a way to help makers sell their work has grown into something much bigger: a busy downtown shop where local creativity, custom printing and a good scoop of ice cream all live under one roof.
Our Cobourg location is home to three connected businesses—CraftyAss Markets, Painted Donkey and The Sweet Stable. Each has its own personality, but they’re all built around the same idea: offer good products, treat people fairly and create the kind of place we would want to shop in ourselves.
CraftyAss Markets
CraftyAss Markets gives independent makers a welcoming, affordable place to sell what they create.
Our store features products from more than 90 makers, bringing together an ever-changing mix of handmade goods, gifts, home décor, apparel and plenty of things you won’t find in a big-box store. Our makers keep 100% of their sales because we believe the person who made the product should receive the money earned from it.
When you shop at CraftyAss, your purchase has a ripple effect. It supports the maker whose item you chose, the people and businesses they buy from, and a locally owned shop working to keep small businesses visible in downtown Cobourg.
Painted Donkey
Painted Donkey is the creative and production side of what we do.
We provide custom DTF and UV DTF printing, apparel blanks and finished custom apparel for individuals, small businesses, teams, events and fellow creators. Whether you need one special shirt, transfers for your own business or a larger custom order, you’re dealing with people who understand both the design side and the practical realities of producing something that needs to look good and hold up.
With more than five years of hands-on print experience, we use commercial equipment and products we have tested ourselves. We don’t sell transfers or apparel we wouldn’t be comfortable using for our own brands.
Most print orders are completed quickly often the same or next business day and pickup is available in Pickering or at our downtown Cobourg store.
The Sweet Stable
The Sweet Stable is the fun, colourful and delicious part of the shop.
It’s our downtown ice cream bar, serving generous scoops in a relaxed space where families, beachgoers, downtown shoppers and four-legged visitors can take a break and enjoy something sweet.
It may seem like an unexpected addition to a maker market and print shop, but to us it makes perfect sense. We wanted our store to feel like more than somewhere you rush into, make a purchase and leave. We wanted it to be a place people enjoy visiting.
One Family of Businesses
Behind all three brands is the same small team.
We design, print, press, stock shelves, serve ice cream, answer messages and help customers figure out what they need. We work directly with our makers, test the products we sell and remain involved in the everyday details of the business.
That means you won’t be passed through layers of departments or handed a scripted response. When you have a question, an unusual request or a problem that needs solving, you’re speaking with someone who can genuinely help.
We also believe businesses should be part of the communities that support them. Whenever we can, we use our space, equipment and reach to support local organizations, community events and causes that matter to the people around us.
We’re still growing, rearranging, experimenting and coming up with new ideas. Some of the best parts of the shop exist because a customer asked a question, a maker brought us something unexpected or we decided to try an idea that sounded just unusual enough to work.
